The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is another excellent 32-inch 4K QD-OLED monitor. It performs admirably in terms of connectivity but falls slightly short in HDR capabilities.


2024 looks like an excellent time to purchase a monitor, especially if you’re in the market for a 32-inch display. The latest 4K 32-inch QD-OLED monitors, such as the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM, offer top-notch image quality with almost no downsides. While Asus’s product doesn’t reach the HDR heights offered by Alienware, it fights back with USB-C connectivity.

Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM Specifications and Features

The specifications of the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM may not be familiar yet, but they will soon become so. It features a new 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel manufactured by Samsung, which will be widely adopted by various brands before 2024 ends. Alienware has beaten Asus to the market with its AW3225QF, but both monitors share the same size, resolution, and refresh rate, among many other features.

Nevertheless, there are some highlights worth mentioning. Asus offers USB-C input with DisplayPort and 90W power delivery. USB-C is not uncommon in 2024, but it’s still somewhat rare in gaming monitors. Asus also boasts official support for AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, while many competitors stick to one or the other.

Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM Design

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is a serious-looking monitor with a sleek dark obsidian appearance and sharp angular design. It’s clearly designed for gaming, but its style ensures it won’t look out of place in more professional environments like home offices or video production studios.

Thanks to high-quality plastics and the ultra-thin OLED panel, the monitor’s slim profile and I/O panel are further highlighted, giving it a premium feel. The result is a modern-looking, slim appearance. It’s also not curved, which I prefer. I like the image quality of the Alienware AW3225QF, but I’m not a fan of curved monitors, so the PG32UCDM gets my vote here. If you want more style, the monitor offers attractive, well-executed LED accent lighting, but this feature can be turned off, and doing so doesn’t make the monitor look dull or boring.

Unfortunately, I do have some complaints about Asus’s stance. It opted for a stand that is almost as wide and deep as the monitor itself. With a shortened leg at the rear of the stand, it’s also quite deep. The result is a stand that takes up a significant amount of space on your desk. It also doesn’t sit flush with the back edge of the desk but has to be a few inches forward, which can be an issue if your desk is shallow.

Aside from these issues, the stand is sturdy and offers extensive ergonomic adjustments. I also found that adjusting the monitor didn’t require too much force, which is always a plus. A 100x100mm VESA mounting bracket is available for attaching third-party stands or monitor arms.

Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM Connection and Menu

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCM boasts an array of excellent modern connectivity options. This includes a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alternate Mode and up to 90 watts of power delivery. Additionally, it features DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 ports.

In total, there are four video inputs, covering a range of devices gamers may want to connect. You can simultaneously connect laptops, desktops, and two gaming consoles, with all connected devices able to access the monitor’s maximum resolution and refresh rate.

The monitor also includes three USB-A downstream ports, offering ample options for gamers to easily connect wired peripherals. However, some competitors, like the Alienware AW3225QF, offer an additional USB-C downstream port, which is beneficial considering many wired peripherals are transitioning to USB-C.

You can control the monitor’s functions and options using the joystick located in the middle of the bottom bezel. Thanks to Asus’ clearly labeled menu options, it’s intuitive and easy to use. These options cover various image quality adjustments, including color space and calibration, color temperature, and gamma. Asus also provides several HDR modes, including one that allows HDR brightness control, a feature lacking in many monitors.

I also want to highlight two specific features.

The first is Asus’ brightness limiter, which is off by default but can be used to mitigate fluctuations and brightness caused by the OLED panel. OLED panels typically appear darker when displaying large bright images compared to small bright images, and these fluctuations can be distracting. While the brightness limiter does slightly reduce the monitor’s maximum brightness, it may be preferable when working on the Windows desktop.

Asus also offers aspect ratio control, which can limit the available display space to either 24.5 inches or 27 inches. This may seem odd, but it makes sense for esports gamers who want to achieve the highest refresh rates and keep the entire visible image centered in their field of view. Players who exclusively play esports titles are better off choosing a 24.5-inch monitor with a higher refresh rate, but for those who enjoy both Civilization VI and Counter-Strike and want a monitor for both games simultaneously, this is a useful option.

The PG32UCDM does not have speakers, but it does offer a 3.5mm audio and SPDIF output. The latter is an interesting and rare feature in a monitor, although it can also be found on the Alienware AW3225QF, which also features eARC. SPDIF is a good way to connect external soundbars or receivers, which may be necessary if using the AW3225QF like a TV in a smaller space.

Should You Buy the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM?

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is another excellent 32-inch 4K QD-OLED monitor. It offers superb image quality, scoring high in contrast, color gamut, and color accuracy. With a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz and support for AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync. Compared to the Alienware AW3225QF, Asus lags in HDR performance and lacks a USB-C downstream port, but it gains a USB-C input with power delivery of up to 90 watts. Asus is also flat, while Alienware is curved, and Alienware’s suggested retail price is $100 cheaper. The choice between Alienware and Asus depends on which of these features you prefer; they are both top-tier monitors.
